The Bodansky Lab published a landmark study in Nature revealing the mechanism behind MIS-C, a severe pediatric complication of COVID-19. The study demonstrated that autoantibodies targeting the human protein SNX8, which structurally resembles a portion of the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein, drive the condition through molecular mimicry. This represents one of the clearest connections between viral infection and autoimmune disease established to date.
